Randy and the Gulf Coast Shrimp Industry.
From GulfShrimp.com to Shrimp.com (1996 - 2013)
Randy Scott is the Founder and former CEO of Shrimp.com. His passion for the Internet began in early in 1991 and his own part-time venture was launched in 1996 when he created a website at GulfShrimp.com that sold a basic line of Seafood. At that time, no other websites marketed Seafood. In 1999, he acquired the valuable URL (web name) Shrimp.com and dedicated his full-time efforts to it in 2004 in his vision that the Internet is a truly viable and powerful format in which to market premium Seafood's direct to the customer.
Randy was born November 1967 in Cuero, Texas. At the age of 6 months old, his family moved to Aransas Pass, Texas (then known as the “Shrimp Capital of the World”). He began his career in the fishing industry in 1976, serving as a deck mate for his family’s shrimp business. In 1981 he then served as a Captain and co-owner on one of the vessels. In 1986 he became the owner/operator of the entire business until it was sold late in 1988. In the spring of 1989 he enrolled at Texas A&M University at Bryan/College Station to finish his studies in business. During this period he spent his summers as a Captain of other fishing vessels.
At Texas A&M University, he earned a Bachelors of Business Administration, majoring in Management. During his stint at Texas A&M University, he was the Founder and President of the Chapter of the Association of Collegiate Entrepreneurs in 1990 and President again in 1991. This chapter’s purpose was to link the business majors and other disciplines together for future business ventures and to meet with successful industry leaders for education and guidance in the actual working business world. In 1996, he decided to pursue his idea of an Internet based Shrimp and Seafood sales business that brought the Shrimp and Seafood direct from the boats to the retail customer.
